Morocco: Marine fishing workers strike

2017-06-19

Morocco - The fishing crews at ports of Morocco protested against the failure to launch the sectoral dialogue and stop what they saw as "the bleeding in the management of human resources". The strike comes with the court of appeal second hearing, where their colleagues Rashid al-Rukaki, Mohammed Sharaf and Abdel-Majid Ahmarawi are being charged on “Muhsen Fekry” lawsuit, where they were sentenced to eight months' imprisonment. In a statement, the union stressed the innocence of their colleagues and demanded that the acquittal of their colleagues. The union condemned the silence of the Ministry of Fisheries in this case, and blamed it for failing to provide legal protection to the employees working in the field of surveillance and fighting illegal fishing, in particular.
