Every day, tens of millions of Arab citizens leave their houses to work. They face difficult circumstances, hard work, and little income. They dream of good working conditions and salaries that would enable them to support their families financially to live in decent conditions.
Well, how can this be fulfilled without having a voice to defend them and their rights. In fact, unions have been established for this purpose, since the beginning of the twentieth century in the Arab countries. However, they were suppressed, hindered, and not allowed to work freely as they wanted, for the sake of workers and all wages’ owners. In addition, most workers’ livings remained below the minimum conditions they needed in order to have a decent life for them and their families.
Fortunately, now, the Arab trade union organizations are not under the control of their government orders anymore, when all the Arab unions decided to be united all together to form what is now the Arab Trade Union Confederation. It is an organization which aims to unite the Arab workers all together to defend their rights, including the rights of women and youth, who are working against discrimination, as well as, to preserve the rights of migrant workers against exploitation.
Moreover, it is an organization headed by men, women and youth alike to create a force calling for social justice and respect for human dignity and individual freedoms. This union has also created a network of Arab women, an Arab youth union, a syndicate of journalists, in addition to the legal workers who defend the workers' rights and work to protect them.
The Arab Trade Union Confederation is a social institution that interferes with labour relations on the basis of respect for the dignity of workers, the maintenance of productive projects, the insurance of the continuity, stability and success of the economic institutions in the Arab countries ,as well as, the principles of equality and freedom for the Arab citizens in their workplaces.
