Lebanon | Lebanese University Employees Extend Strike Until April 7 to Protest Deteriorating Living Conditions

Beirut – April 2025
The Association of Employees at the Lebanese University has announced the extension of its ongoing strike, which began on March 20, 2025, through to April 7, in protest against the continued deterioration of working and living conditions, and the lack of any serious response from the authorities to their demands.

In an official statement, the association cited the absence of any tangible progress in addressing key demands, including:
• Salary adjustments to keep pace with inflation and rising costs of living
• Improved social and health benefits
• Payment of overdue entitlements and guarantees for job security
• Respect for the dignity of workers and preservation of the university as a national public institution

The strike includes a complete suspension of all administrative and academic activities across the university’s faculties and campuses. The association has also called for a protest sit-in in front of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education on Monday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m., as an escalatory step.

On April 13, 2025, the association later announced a one-month suspension of the strike, following some partial gains and renewed dialogue with the relevant authorities—while maintaining a commitment to monitor implementation and continue mobilization if needed.
