Morocco: National General Strike on February 5, 2025, Called by the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDT)
In a strong move to defend the economic and social rights of Moroccan workers, the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDT) has announced a national general strike for Wednesday, February 5, 2025, covering all key sectors including the private sector, public administration, local municipalities, and public and semi-public institutions.
Strike Implementation Details:
🔹 Private Sector: The strike will be carried out in accordance with the internal procedures of each workplace, with a complete work stoppage from the first to the last hour of the strike day.
🔹 Public Administration, Municipalities, and Public Institutions:
• A full 24-hour work stoppage starting from midnight Tuesday/Wednesday.
• No signing of attendance registers or electronic check-ins on the strike day.
• Commitment to the protest program defined by the union branches within each sector.
🔹 Health Sector: Emergency and intensive care units in public hospitals are exempted from the strike to ensure continuity of essential medical services.
🔹 Parallel Actions: The CDT will also organize regional, local, and national protest gatherings in conjunction with the strike.
According to the CDT’s official statement, this strike comes in response to what it describes as the government’s continued disregard for workers’ demands, especially in relation to:
• Wage increases and cost of living adjustments
• Strengthening social protection systems
• Respecting trade union freedoms and collective bargaining rights
Arab Trade Union Confederation Statement:
The Arab Trade Union Confederation expresses its full solidarity with Moroccan workers and their ongoing struggle. The strike is a legitimate expression of workers’ frustrations and demands for justice. We call on the Moroccan government to engage in a serious and inclusive social dialogue that upholds labor rights, ensures social justice, and guarantees dignity for all workers.
