A recent local and international study, entitled "The forced return of the deported Tunisians" published in the Tunisian weekly newspaper, “Al-Sabah Al-Osboui", revealed that the number of Tunisians forcibly deported from abroad during the last five years exceeded 10 000, including 5 000 Tunisians who were deported from Italy.
The study, carried out in partnership with the Center for Studies and Training in Tunisia and the National Observatory for Migration and funded by the Italian Foreign Cooperation Agency in December 2018, concluded that most of the forcibly deported Tunisians belong to three governorates: Tunis, Ben Arous and Manouba, where Tunis has the highest percentage of deportees, i.e. more than 70 percent.
According to the study, most of the deportees belong to slums, where 59 percent of the respondents were under the age of 40 and were uneducated, whereas 65 percent had the basic primary level and 35 percent had the secondary education level.
