Bahrain: Shura Council rejects a bill on women’s breastfeeding rights in the private sector

The Shura Council refused to reconsider the bill on giving working women two paid hours of breastfeeding time after their birth leave until the child reaches two years instead of six months and one hour for a year later. The General Federation of Workers Trade Unions in Bahrain and the Ministry of Labour and Social Development informed the Shura Council that the bill should be revised in accordance with the C111 - Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention on integrating women in the labour market and decreasing the gender gap between the sexes. 70% of unemployed people are women.
