Lebanon: Tripoli municipality workers protest

On November 3, Tripoli municipality workers protested in order to obtain the aid previously approved by the government in the public sector and social assistance approved by the Tripoli Municipal Council. In a statement, the municipal workers demanded their financial rights in light of the dire economic and social conditions. They, also, demanded, hospitalization and family grants.

Tunisia: Increase in the salaries and grants of textile workers

On November 3, the General Federation of Textiles and Clothing of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) signed an agreement to increase the salaries and grants of workers in the textile and clothing sector. The increase is estimated at 6.5% in salaries and grants for 2021 and at 7% for the 2022. More than 150,000 workers in the textile and clothing sector will benefit from this increase.

Jordan: Legal and psychological support to workers

On November 3rd, the head of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), Mazen Maaytah, announced that the union intends to open an office that will provide legal and psychological help in cases of violence against workers. The office will, also, provide medical assistance needed by victims of violence in the work environment. In a press statement, the president of the federation stressed that any form of violence or harm to workers in the work environment is a violation of their rights to have a safe work environment and decent work measures guaranteed by the law, which mostly impacts women.
