Yemen: The first voluntary return flight of Ethiopian migrants from Yemen

Around 126 stranded Ethiopian migrants left Marib (northeast of the capital Sanaa) towards the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on a voluntary return flight. This flight is the first in a series of flights supervised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to return 900 Ethiopian migrants to their country over the next month.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated that the number of migrants arriving in Yemen in 2022 began to increase again, reaching about 25,000 migrants in the first four months of 2022. Yemen is a major transit point on the migration route from the Horn of Africa to Saudi Arabia, despite the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis.
