Participation of the Arab Trade Union Confederation in the Seminar on the Impact of Migrant Workers on Social Development
During her participation in a seminar on the Impact of Migrant Workers on Social Development, held on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha 2025, Hind Ben Ammar, Executive Secretary of the Arab Trade Union Confederation, delivered an intervention alongside the Deputy Director-General of the International Labour Organization, a representative of the International Organisation of Employers, and a representative of the Spanish Ministry of Labour.
In her statement, she underscored three key points:
1. The need to address the situation of migrant workers not only through regulatory and administrative measures, but also through human rights, economic, and social lenses, recognizing them as fundamental contributors to development.
2. The importance of reforming existing legislative frameworks that deny migrant workers the right to organize and to engage in collective bargaining.
3. The necessity of abolishing all systems and laws that facilitate violations of migrant workers’ rights, including the kafala (sponsorship) system.
She concluded by stressing that migration has fueled economic and social progress in many countries, and that the benefits of development must be fairly distributed, ensuring that migrant workers are not excluded
