Ismailia Blof Incident: A New Tragedy Highlights the Absence of Safety and Accountability

The Arab Trade Union Confederation mourns the workers who lost their lives in the gas line Blof complex explosion in Abu Sultan, Ismailia: Mohamed Saeed Mousa (32) and Mohamed Khamis Hamza (45), and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

The ATUC emphasizes that this tragedy is not an isolated incident but a direct result of neglecting occupational safety and health standards—a recurring pattern evident in a series of previous tragic incidents in Egypt, from gas line explosions to facility fires, without holding those responsible accountable.

The ATUC stresses that workers are not mere numbers, and safeguarding their lives is a fundamental responsibility of the state and employers. It warns that the absence of accountability encourages the repetition of such disasters.

The ATUC calls for the establishment of a strict occupational safety and health system, transparent investigations, and genuine accountability that spares no one, regardless of position, to ensure safe working conditions and protect the lives of workers and citizens alike.
