The workforce at Gafsa Phosphate Company is currently experiencing a period of tension and labor protests. This morning, workers and staff carried out a partial strike across several regions. Production was partially halted in the Metlaoui area, while full stoppages were reported in Om Al-Arais, Redeyef, and Mdhila.
These protests stem from management’s failure to meet core workers’ demands, including the back-to-school allowance and social loans, which are vital for supporting employees and their families in meeting daily financial challenges.
Workers emphasize that these demands are not merely financial rights but are essential for ensuring their economic and social stability and for maintaining continuous work and production within the company. They also highlight that the lack of effective dialogue with management and the absence of negotiation sessions in previous phases have been key factors in the escalation of the protests.
The Arab Trade Union Federation stresses the importance of addressing workers’ legitimate demands and opening transparent and effective channels of dialogue to ensure the company’s stability, protect workers’ rights, and promote social justice.
