Palestine: A High-Tension Proposal for Social Security

Shortly after the Oslo Accords of 1993, the Palestinian Legislative Council began drafting a law on social security in Palestine. The objective was for this law to be partially funded by the deductions made by the Israeli social security from the salaries of Palestinians working in the Occupied Territories, with these funds being transferred to the Palestinian Authority. However, despite its planned implementation in 2007, the World Bank recommended to the Palestinian Authority not to enforce it, which led to the cancellation of the law by presidential decree.
