The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) is the largest trade union organization in Tunisia. It was founded on January 20, 1946, by Farhat Hached. The union played a pivotal role in both the national and social struggles, contributing significantly to the national movement against French colonialism. Its founder, Farhat Hached, was assassinated on December 5, 1952. Following independence, the UGTT continued to defend workers’ rights and contributed to Tunisia’s social and economic development.

The union covers nearly all sectors represented in the Tunisian labor market.
The Tunisian General Labour Union is one of the founding members of the Arab Trade Union Confederation.
