The Democratic Confederation of Labour Calls for the Protection of Sanitation Workers in Fquih Ben Salah and the Guarantee of Their Legal Rights
The Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDT) is closely monitoring with deep concern the social and economic situation of the workers of “Ozone,” the company entrusted with managing the sanitation sector in the city of Fquih Ben Salah, Morocco. These workers face a severe crisis that is not temporary but has become a daily challenge weighing heavily on them and directly affecting their quality of life and dignity, despite performing a vital public service under poor working conditions.
The workers suffer from continuous delays in wage payments, poor working conditions, lack of protective equipment—such as gloves, uniforms, and appropriate machinery—as well as the absence of mandatory health coverage (AMO), despite the municipal council’s obligation to pay the company’s dues on time. The workers describe this situation as a blatant violation of the law and a real threat to their health, safety, and livelihood, particularly in the absence of basic occupational safety standards.
The CDT emphasizes that continuing to work with a company that fails to respect its social and legal obligations undermines the principle of accountability and violates workers’ rights to protection and dignity. Therefore, terminating the contract with the company responsible for the current situation has become an indispensable option, to be accompanied by measures ensuring:
• Integration of workers into any alternative management framework, whether through direct municipal management or a new delegated operator committed to respecting workers’ rights;
• Immediate payment of overdue wages;
• Provision of AMO health coverage without delay;
• A safe working environment and minimum protective equipment;
• Enforcement of legal penalties for breaches of management obligations according to Moroccan delegated management law.
The Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) expresses its full solidarity with the workers of “Ozone” in Fquih Ben Salah and calls on the relevant authorities—the municipal council, labor inspection, National Social Security Fund, and local authorities—to acknowledge the harm caused by the current situation and to take urgent measures to restore proper labor and union standards, ensuring these workers’ right to a decent and stable working environment.
